You'll notice little games of revenge among the competition. Thankfully they're not all out against you. The enemy AI is sharp and will remember if you've snaked them in the past.
Depending on the opposition, this will earn you respect or make you a marked man. In each race you enter, the total number of cars you've hit and killed are logged. You have a reputation to grow and maintain. You must work your way up the ranks and enter any ridiculous event you can nudge your way into. You start off with a pile of garbage as your car and only $75 to your name. For the solo insane drive, there's a career mode. The outlandish nature of the game makes Eve of Destruction a natural for parties. All told, there are 25 events and 30 vehicles for you to play with. But wait, there's more! The game also has vehicle-specific races where you must drive a school bus, an ambulance, or a hearse in some outrageous manner. It's crazy, crazy stuff, but it's also real. You'll also see things where cars not only have to race to the finish line, but they have to avoid incoming vehicles whose only purpose is to crush them. Instead you'll see things like races between pairs of cars I'm talking tandem races where two cars are chained together, with the forward car controlling the duo and the rear car flailing about haplessly and dangerously (and yes, there is a guy in the cockpit of the rear vehicle). There's an actual event that goes by the same, but you won't see any straight lap racing here. Eve of Destruction is based on a subcategory of racing that's niche at best. Eve of Destruction takes the series in an entirely new direction, and it's one that's even crazier than Dean's impassioned, but seemingly mental, rant. If the game could talk, it would scream, "We're going to Le Mans! We're going to use Cycles! We're going to Off Road and Off Road - Wide Open! And we're going to Rally and V-Rally!" All of those titles have followed the Test Drive brand at one time or another but you ain't seen nothin' yet. If Test Drive were a political candidate, it would be Howard Dean. Test Drive is one of the oldest and most diverse racing series in gaming.
